A poker game begins with each player placing an ante into the pot. Then the players are dealt five cards each. The player to the left of the dealer acts first in each betting phase. The cards are then flipped over, and the betting starts again. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot.
The highest poker hand is a royal flush, which consists of four matching cards of the same rank and five consecutive cards of the same suit. The next highest hand is a straight, which consists of five consecutive cards of the same rank in a single suit. A full house is three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another, plus a pair. The lowest poker hand is a high card, which consists of two unmatched cards of the same rank.
